Basic Precision Rifle Course

Training Prerequisite: None
Maximum 12 participants per class

Course Information:

This course is designed to show a new shooter the fundamentals of setting up and employing a precision rifle. This includes the finer points in efficient fundamentals, body position as well as maintenance, equipment and spotting. Your course will be instructed by members of the special operations community and law enforcement.

*This course may require some moderate physical activity


Core topics that will be covered include:
  • Fitting the rifle
  • Scope basics and mounting the scope
  • Cleaning and maintenance
  • Basic ballistics
  • Shooting position fundamentals
  • Zeroing
  • Intro to wind reading
  • Use of the spotting scope
  • Working with a spotter
  • Known distance engagements out to 600 yards or more (class dependent)

Registration Fee: $550.00

This fee covers the cost of the course only. The participant is responsible for costs associated with travel, lodging, meals, firearms, ammunition, and gear required.

  • A Background Check is required with registration.

  • Once the report is complete and you have reviewed it for accuracy, forward it to MarcyG@iwi.us by using the share button on the report.  

The background check requirement will be waived if the applicant can provide a copy of their concealed carry permit, issued by their home state, along with a copy of their driver's license OR a copy of their law enforcement credentials and their state issued driver's license.

Firearms Requirements
  • Quality precision rifle (with bipod and sling recommended)
  • 5.56 or larger caliber, capable of shooting 1 inch or less at 100 yards consistently
  • A high-quality scope with 75 minutes of elevation or greater with mil dot reticle (recommended)


Ammunition Requirements:

200 Rounds of match grade ammunition
Gear Requirements:
  • Seasonally appropriate clothing
  • Rain gear
  • Hydration system
  • Hat
  • Boots/hiking shoes
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Water bottle (Suggested)
  • Hearing & eye protection
  • Spotting scope with variable power setting and tripod (a reticle is highly recommended)
  • One piece cleaning rod, bore guide, jag, cotton patches, cleaning gear and copper solvent
  • Bean bag/shooting bag/shooting sock
  • Drag bag/mat
  • One spare magazines minimum (for those weapons with detachable mags)
  • Medium backpack
  • Calculator (battery powered)
  • Notebook and pencil or write in the rain pen

Meal Options:
To request meals for the class, please contact Reveille Peak Ranch at (512) 755-1177. Meals are $15.00 per person per day and only cash is accepted.
The meal includes a main, side, desert, and drink. *Vegetarian options are also available upon request.
  • Day 1 - Main dish will consist of a sandwich with a variety of meat options. 
  • Day 2 - Main dish will consist of a hot meal.
The applicant also has the option to bring their own packed lunch. Refrigerators will be available.
